Alon, Asaf Shlomo


Son of Naomi and son of-Zion. He was born on 10.9.1966 in Kibbutz Amiad. At a young age, he moved to Arad with his family. He did his elementary studies at the “Ofarim” elementary school and went on to the comprehensive high school in Arad. He studied at the Ron High School in Tel Aviv for the last two years of his studies. Assaf, a tall, handsome young man, with great power in his presence. His rolling laugh would sweep everyone away. He played football with Hapoel Arad and was in a handball team. Two years before his induction he moved to soccer in Bnei Yehuda in Tel Aviv. His goal was to reach the Golani Brigade. In mid-November 1984, he enlisted in the IDF and volunteered for the Golani Brigade, where Assaf underwent a basic training course and a squadron commander’s course. Assaf was a soldier of unparalleled endurance. The fighting spirit and leadership qualities were characteristic of him. Especially during the difficult moments when the department was under pressure, Assaf stood out as a responsible soldier who encouraged everyone and urged the department to carry out the orders thoroughly and quickly. On long journeys he helped everyone, and never complained. He trusted his eternal smile and social spirit. On April 19, 1987, Asaf was killed in a battle for the defense of the northern settlements, and he was buried in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul and left behind his parents and sister Betty And his friend, Avi Naim, published a booklet in his memory in which members of the Jewish student movement planted a tree in his memory: “Assaf was an outstanding departmental sergeant, loyal to his commanders and subordinates, Who knew him. “In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote:” It was important for Assaf to trust him.
