Almasi, Zion
Zion, born in Mazal and Shmuel, was born on 12 July 1953 in Be’er Sheva and studied at the “Magles” elementary school near Netivot and the Wolfson high schools in Be’er Sheva and the “Torah and Crafts” in Netivot Zion was a diligent student in the school and in the professional yeshiva, and was loved by his teachers and friends for his friendly attitude, honesty and kindness, a loyal and conscientious fellow, a loyal son and devoted to his parents and family. He also devoted great time to guiding youth at summer camps in Dimona, Tel Yerucham and Ma’agal, and all his students loved him and appreciated his work for the youth and for instilling social relations and values. Zion was drafted into the IDF in early November 1971 and took a five-year course in the Ordnance Corps. He was a good and disciplined soldier and all his friends and commanders in the unit loved him and appreciated his work. He served in a workshop in Sinai and was later attached to an artillery unit. Zion was very friendly and had friends all over the country. He took care of the welfare and well-being of his family and on his vacations helped them as best they could, and they returned his love and respect and took pride in him. He traveled extensively around the country with his many friends, who saw him as a good friend and even a mentor and educator. He used to draw his friends to the synagogue where he would teach them prayers and guide them in the service of God. On Yom Kippur, 10 October 1973, Zion took part in the battles against the Syrians in the Golan Heights, where he was killed and killed in his gun position in Tel-Jukhadar and brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. Four brothers and two sisters, and was raised to the rank of sergeant in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote that Zion had done a very good job of maintaining the moving cannon, and as a result of his dedicated work, the weapons worked properly during those fateful hours on Yom Kippur.
