Almagor (Magar), Ephraim

Ephraim, son of Klara and Vitali-Chaim Majar (Almagor), was born in 1928 in Constantinople, Turkey. He immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1943 and was a member of the “youth group” in Kibbutz Tel Yosef. He was modest and very happy with life and knew how to please his friends. His group joined the Palmach in Afikim and joined the army in the framework of the “Yiftah” Brigade, which fought in the battle for the Galilee, the battles of Lod-Ramle and the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv route. In Operation Yoav, the battalion launched its first operation, Hanoun, on the night of 15-16 October 1948, in order to mislead the Egyptians with regard to the main effort and to cut off their forces north of Gaza. In a fierce battle with the Egyptians, Ephraim fell, on the 14th of Tishrai, October 17, 1948. He was buried in a mass grave at Kibbutz Dorot, and on the 17th of Iyar 5706 (4.5.1950), he was laid to rest at the Nahalat Military Cemetery.
