Algemiz, Daniel (“Danny”)

Son of Shimon and Miriam. He was born on May 12, 1947 in Izmir, Turkey. In 1948 he immigrated to Israel with his parents. In Yehud he graduated from elementary school. Because of his tendency to sports, he devoted himself mainly to basketball and played for the Hapoel team in Yehud. He attended high school in Jerusalem and stayed at Carmit, a boarding school for gifted students. Was very attached to his home and in all his actions and decisions he considered the reaction of his parents and sisters. In the boarding school he was loved by his friends and friends, and he was also with him during his army service. When he was drafted into the IDF he served as a training noncom at the Armored Corps School (with the rank of sergeant). Was about to be released from the army and return to his family and studies. The period before the Six-Day War was tense and nervous, but he was awake and fresh and capable of carrying out any task, as the commander of his brigade had written about him in his letter to the bereaved family. In the same letter, the commander says that at that time, Danny asked to be transferred to the position of commander of the Centurion tank because he did not see his role as a combatant and thought he could contribute to the war effort more. In the days leading up to the war and in the war he served as the operations non-commissioned officer at the main headquarters, and on the first day of the fighting, he was killed in a battle south of the Rafiah junction, And in time he was put to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and to commemorate his parents, the parents of Daniel Keren founded Yad Daniel scholarships and the scholarships will be given to the children of Yehud, graduates of high schools who continue their studies.
