Alexandrovich, Ilan
Son of Ella and Avraham, he was born on September 1, 1961 in Haifa and studied at the Ma’aleh Hacarmel Elementary School. He continued his studies at the Bassmat High School in electronics. Ilan was a tall, handsome, pleasant young man. He excelled in his studies and conquered hearts in his humble manner. At Kibbutz Tuval he coordinated the “chopping wood” industry and served as a driver at a shopping center and as a transportation officer. His serious attitude to work, his sense of responsibility and his ability to cope with challenges and difficulties, helped him excel in all his actions. Ilan also lectured to young Jews in England when he was joined as a member of an information delegation of young Israelis. Some of these young people were persuaded, immigrated to Israel and settled in various kibbutzim. Ilan was drafted into the IDF in early January 1980 and volunteered to serve in the paratroop brigade. During basic training, Ilan continued to maintain contact with his friends at Kibbutz Tuval, and during the middle period returned to the kibbutz to continue his work and to train a new group of Scouts called Irad. Because of the Peace for Galilee War, he was stationed in the infantry brigade and participated in battles in Lebanon. On 17 Tamuz, July 8, 1982, Ilan fell in the course of his service in the Peace for the Galilee War and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind his parents and a sister. After his death he was given the rank of sergeant. His family published a book in his memory, including the words of friends, teachers and relatives about his character. In addition, his parents and friends established a room in his name in the “Carmel Horsemen” tribe and a sports facility on the grounds of the Scouts summer camp in the Ofer Forest. The leadership of the tribe of “Carmel Horsemen” decided that the opening ceremony of the year of activity will be devoted to Ilan’s memory every year.
