Akiva, Shealtiel


Son of-Varda and Shalom, was born on January 31, 1964 in Petah Tikva. Shaltiel was a member of a family that immigrated from Yemen and lived in Rosh Ha’ayin. He was a third son in the family, with two brothers. From childhood Shaltiel excelled in all his actions and studies. He was very alert, he was good at singing, and mostly loved to sing peace songs. Shaltiel was Simcha to come to the aid of others, and moved away from quarrels. He loved order and quiet, was connected to his family and knew how to express his love for his parents. Shaltiel began his studies at the Ohel Shem elementary school in Rosh Ha’ayin. He successfully completed the school and was sent to a high school in Beit-Gan and Jerusalem. He had studied there for three years. Shaltiel made his last year of high school in the Rogozin Comprehensive School in Rosh Ha’ayin, in the framework of mechanical frameworks. In September 1982 he completed a course in driving a truck, and was sent to a driving course, where he completed a driving course in a truck In July 1983, he was promoted to corporal. Shaltiel took a course in transport logistics, and in March 1984 he was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and Shaltiel fought in the Peace for Galilee War, and passed an examination for an officers’ course and was about to be admitted to the course. , Together with a group of selected soldiers who excelled during the year in service. On the 14th of Nisan 5745, on the eve of the Seder, Shaltiel came from Lebanon to his home to spend the holiday with his family. On the eve of his arrival, he received a telephone call from the base where he served, and announced that he had to return immediately to his unit, and so he did. In order to spend at least part of the holiday with his family, Shaltiel went out on his way to Rosh Ha’ayin on the 16th of Nisan 5745 (6.4.1985). On the way, he was kidnapped by a terrorist cell. Two days later, on April 8, 1985, an Arab resident discovered his body lying on the Son of Shemen-Rosh Ha’ayin road near the settlement of Beit Aryeh. He was 21 years old when he died. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Rosh Ha’ayin cemetery. Shaltiel left behind his parents, three sisters and two brothers. Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Sergeant Shaltiel Akiva gave his life for his homeland, and was murdered in the Shilo region near Elkana on his way from his military base to his home. He was very fond of his comrades, commanders and subordinates. ” The commander of his unit wrote to his family: Shaltiel served in our unit for two years as a transport noncom and driver, and he did his job quietly, safely, devotedly and diligently, both inside and outside the country,
