Aish, Hofit

Daughter of Ruth and Michael. She was born on 25.1.1976 in Afula, the second daughter of a family of four. Hofit began her studies at the “Alon Yizrael” elementary school in Afula, and after the family moved to Yavneh, she continued at the Ben Gurion elementary school in Yavneh and graduated from the Harel elementary school in Ashdod. In this city she continued her junior high and high school studies in “Makif Hashem”. From her childhood, Hofit was prominent in extensive social and community activities, sometimes even at the expense of her investment in studies. She received a first prize at the Young Artists’ Youth Competition in Ashdod, and in grades 11-12 she was the chairman of the student council at her school. She traveled frequently and spent time with her friends, and was a major factor in social events. Despite her wide-ranging social activity she managed, to the surprise of her teachers, to get good marks on the tests. At the age of sixteen she met her boyfriend, Yaniv, and since then they have not parted. They planned to marry, and even set a wedding date, after the liberation. In July 1994, Hofit enlisted in the IDF and was transferred to the Southern Command, where she served as a clerk, and later served as the clerk of the division commander’s bureau, assumed the powers and duties of an officer and fulfilled her duties with dedication and responsibility. On February 25, 1996, on the eve of her release, Hofit was killed in a suicide attack by a terrorist at the Ashkelon junction. She left parents, two sisters – Yamit and Shahaf, brother – Gal and a friend – Yaniv. She was twenty years old. After her death she was promoted to sergeant. She was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ashdod. Lieutenant Colonel Lior, wrote: “Hofit always aspired to excellence and perfection in all her actions, she was responsible, invested and efficient, and she was an officer with no ranks on her shoulders, social and friendly, beautiful and beautiful, and Hofit was a great asset to the IDF and the entire unit. “Liat Naveh, Hofit’s cousin, wrote about her:” There are many stars in the sky, but one is twice as special, but there are many stars in the sky, but one is even more beautiful. And to warn all night / never get tired or raise hands / wanted to make all people happy. “
