Ahrenwald, Chaim (Heinrich)

Ahrenwald, Chaim (Heinrich)

Son of Ephraim and Sarah. He was born on May 3, 1947 in Pugresz, Romania. Because of their affiliation to the Zionist movement, the parents suffered and were even detained in concentration camps. But in 1958, after the boy had studied for four years in an elementary school in Romania, the family immigrated to Israel. When he arrived, he spent three years in an institution of the Youth Aliyah at the Zionist Youth Farm in Jerusalem and continued his high school studies there. In the framework of the school did artistic metal works. He was a soccer player and also played handball at Hapoel in Jerusalem. According to his profession was a metalworker building. On behalf of the Gadna, he took a platoon commander course and participated in four marches. About ten months after he was drafted (August 1966) and served in the Paratroopers Brigade, the Six-Day War broke out and Haim left with his comrades in arms. On the first day of the fighting, on the 5th of Iyar 5727 (5.6.1967), he fell at the Rafiah junction. He was buried in the emergency cemetery in Bari and later moved to eternal rest in the Herzliya cemetery. In his memory and in memory of his fallen friends, the Youth Aliyah Foundation (where he spent eight years after immigrating to Israel) published a pamphlet called “Four Do not Return.” His memory was raised and his name was immortalized in the booklet “On Their Frontier” published by the secretariat of Hanoar Hazioni Kibbutzim, Haoved Hazioni moshavim and Yesodot Youth Village.
