Aharonov, Gregory

Gregory, son of Freina and Alexander Aharonov, was born on January 10, 1972 in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. In 1991, Gregory immigrated to Israel, following his sister Yevgenia, who immigrated earlier. His wife Oksana and his parents remained in Ukraine until he prepared the ground for their immigration. Over the years, Gregory’s parents joined their children in Israel and the family settled in the Orot neighborhood of Or Akiva. He enlisted in the IDF for regular service and was assigned to the IDF Logistics Corps. On 12 Av 5766 (6.8.2006), he was killed with the soldiers of his battalion near the cemetery on Kibbutz Kfar Giladi by Katyusha rockets fired by Hizbullah terrorists from Lebanese territory. Gregory was thirty-four years old, the same age as his grandfather who had been killed in World War II and named after him. He was brought to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Or Akiva.
