Aharonov, Amos (Abba Hai)


Son of Hefetzi and Eliahu, was born in Tashkent in the Soviet Union in 1926 and immigrated to Israel in 1936 on a wandering route. Father Eliahu and his two sons set out on one of the Russian winter nights, on mountain paths, crossed the border and reached the land of their will. The mother and sisters went out separately and their tracks were not known. Thus Moses and his brothers remained without a mother’s education. In Israel he received a popular education and moved to a working life. He studied in a delicate mechanics and later became self-sufficient. When the war broke out, he volunteered and served in the Golani Brigade. His first job was to guard the handful of families in Shdemot – Deborah. In his letters, the idea of ​​defense and unobstructed resistance to the enemy is emphasized. In one letter the son mentions to the father how he, the father, used to guard the boys, and now he, the son, became the guard of his brothers. After three months he went to Ein Gev where he underwent an artillery course. On May 16, 1948, the Syrian army attacked the Jordan Valley and its first target was Tzemach. His unit was rushed to the site with 20mm cannons, and for two days it participated in repelling the enemy’s attacks, and the Syrians attacked again with the help of cannons and armor, and on that day it fell on 18.5.1948. Amos was laid to rest in a grave in Degania Aleph.
