Aharoni, Zvi (“Shmuel”)


Son of Hannah and Ephraim. He was born in Vilna, Poland, to a Zionist family, and his father was one of the leaders of the Zionist movement in the city of Tel Aviv. Afterward, the family moved to Jerusalem where he studied at a school founded by the Mizrachi movement, but did not complete his studies, and at the age of sixteen he began to work in fine mechanics, joining the Lehi underground in Jerusalem and taking part in several activities Armed with British forces. At that time he was also active in the Brith Hasmoneans youth movement. In a joint attack by the Lechi and the Irgun on the Central Intelligence Agency in the Russian Compound, Jerusalem, on the 27th of Tevet 5726 (27.12.1945), he was shot in the leg with a vein and then died of blood loss. He was laid to rest on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents and brothers. His name was immortalized in the book “Unknown Soldiers.”
