Aharoni, Yair
Son of Yosef Haim and Margalit, born in Jerusalem and one of the founders of Netanya. His grandfather, both on his father’s side and on his mother’s side, were both Kabbalists in the Old City of Jerusalem. Yair, the third generation in Israel, was born on June 26, 1948 in Netanya and grew up in an atmosphere of dreamers and fighters; Hence the name his parents called him – after the commander of the Israel Freedom Fighters. His birth was in a religious atmosphere and his legacy was traditional. He completed his studies at the “Tachkemoni” elementary school and then completed his high school studies at the Bar-Ilan School, both in his hometown. He belonged to the Bnei Akiva youth movement. He was a nature lover and also inclined to sports (basketball and soccer). Obedient to the great ones, out of the esteem of others, modest in recognition of the verse “and austerity” and his spirit was indisputable. He was drafted into the IDF in August 1966, served in the Golani Brigade and took a platoon commander’s course. “I want to tie my future in the IDF.” During the period he spent in the IDF, he only had a few days of vacation, and his share was only training and travel, and the days were always on alert – until the outbreak of the Six Day War Days. Participated in the battle for the cleansing of the city of Nablus and excelled in the readiness to carry out the tasks assigned to him. However, in the battle for the conquest of the enemy outposts on the Golan Heights, which took place on the fifth day of the battles, he fell on the 9th of June 1967. His commander pointed out that this battle was the second of his cruelty after the battle to conquer the city of Nablus and Tahura, “He was buried at the military cemetery in Afula and later moved to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
