Aharon (Douga) Aharon
Son of Yitzhak grew up. Born in 1946 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, the family immigrated to Israel in 1951. He completed his elementary studies at the Ariel School in Maoz Zion and then continued his studies at the ORT school in Jerusalem in the automotive mechanics track. He also worked as a car mechanic and did not have many leisure hours because of his social activities, including youth training, conversations and meetings with friends, and in the afternoon he dealt with sports, especially soccer, and also organized public activities In the Yishuv, such as the establishment of a local orchestra and parties for friends, he was fond of all his friends without condescension He was always the social center of his friends who had been in his house for many hours, without being bored, he was full of humor and jest because he loved life and knew that laughter was a good sign of life. Because of the love of his friends and his diverse talents, there was no event in the village where Aharon’s personality was not prominent, and he was drafted into the IDF in August 1966 and served in the navy. He volunteered for submarine service and was ordained as a submarine in June 1967. In the Six Day War he participated in the infiltration of the submarine “Crocodile” to the enemy port. Aharon was an outstanding mechanic. He went to England to join the crew of the submarine “Dakar”, but when she was on her way home and found on the sea route between Gibraltar and Haifa, contact with her was cut off and was never renewed. This was on the 24th of Tevet 5728 (25.1.1968). The Chief Military Rabbinate determined that the date of Aharon’s passing, in the course of his duties together with the rest, was on the 30th of Tevet 5728 (30.1.1968). Since Aharon was one of the missing crew members, a memorial monument was placed inside him in a memorial to the Dakar people in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The commander of the navy wrote in his letter of condolences to the family: “Aharon, your loved one, participated in the Six Day War when the submarine” Crocodile “penetrated the enemy port and excelled in this operation with his courage, resourcefulness and full control. Leadership and control – and a great future awaited him in the family of divers. ” In Eran Shorer’s book “Six Days in Decker,” his picture was presented. On the 28th of June 1999, after years of searching, the INS Dakar submarine was found on the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea, at a depth of 2,900 meters on its planned sailing route and 250 miles from the port of Haifa.
