Ackerman, Dov
Son of Hinda and Mordechai. He was born on April 28, 1919 in Porisow, Poland. In 1934 he immigrated with his parents to Palestine. Worked for a year with his father in a leather belt workshop and two years later worked as a volunteer with a couple of farmers in Magdiel. From 1935 to 1939 he was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement. With the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the British army and served in the cavalry corps. He took part in the battles in Crete where he was captured by the Germans. On April 12, 1945, he was killed in the bombing while being transferred to Germany. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Dornbach, Germany. His name was immortalized in “The Book of Volunteering”.
