Abudi, Shimon


Shimon ben Sasson and Rachel. Born in Baghdad, Iraq on the 2nd of Tamuz, July 26, 1949. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1951. He was a diligent and clever student, and his perception was quick and clear. Shimon was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early January 1967 and assigned to the Air Force, where he served as a jet fighter mechanic and air-force launcher, and was considered a good and dedicated soldier, responsible and knowledgeable in his profession. After being discharged from regular service in 1970, he was hired by El Al as an aircraft mechanic, and his qualifications, high technical ability and credibility proved to be important in his company. When he was called up for reserve he always fulfilled his duty with loyalty. On the 30th of Av 5768, September 2, 1978, he fell in line of duty and was laid to rest in the military section of the Petah Tikva cemetery. He was survived by a mother, two brothers and a sister. In a letter of condolence to his family, his commander wrote: “Shimon was a veteran and experienced soldier and had served in our unit since the Six-Day War. His work in our unit would serve as an example to all his friends and followers. “
