Abuchatzeira, Michael

Michael, ben Masuda, and Yaish was born in 1955 in Agadir, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1963. Two years before his enlistment, his older brother, Yosef, was killed in a car accident in the Negev as a military driver, and Michael wanted to continue on his older brother’s path. Indeed, during his service he was granted a driver’s license in heavy trucks. Michael, whom his friends called Halifa, served in the army at the Southern Command. During his service in the army, he was discovered as a dedicated soldier to his commanders and on many occasions volunteered to go on various missions in the Sinai, often on account of his vacation. He was very loyal to his last commanding officer and was always ready to go with him on the most dangerous missions. On March 18, 1974, Michael was wounded while carrying out his duties. On the 1st of Iyar, 5734 (23.4.1974), he died of his wounds at the hospital in Be’er Sheva, and on that day he was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Gat.
