Abu, Joseph


Joseph, son of Aziza and Jacob, was born on June 1, 1952 in Fez, Morocco, and attended elementary school and high school in Morocco, where he immigrated to Israel to prepare for the immigration of his parents, who were still abroad. He went to live in Bnei Brak, where he worked in the tax office until his enlistment, and was drafted into the IDF in mid-July 1973. After completing basic training he was assigned to serve as a platoon sergeant in the Golani Brigade. As part of his military service he was transferred to a base in the center of the country in order to study in the course. On February 16, 1974, Yosef was killed while carrying out his duties. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Tiberias. He left behind parents abroad and a sister in Israel.
