Abu Haya, Faiz

Abu Haya, Faiz

Son of Hazana and Salah. Faiz was born in Beit Jann in 1946. Faiz received a good education at his parents’ home, even though in his childhood the War of Independence took place there. He completed his elementary studies in the village, as well as his high school studies. In 1964, when he reached the age of enlistment, Fayez was called to serve in the Israel Defense Forces, like the rest of his village and his committee, and after completing his induction he joined the Druze unit that dealt with routine security in southern Israel. Fa’iz completed his compulsory military service with dedication and loyalty. He was then drafted on 19.7.1967 to a career army unit in the Border Police unit. Fayez served in this unit for twenty years and filled a series of routine security functions and maintaining order, mainly in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip. After twenty years of intensive service, First Sergeant Faiz received a Lev attack while at the base. He was immediately transferred to the hospital for treatment and was under daily supervision. On October 26, 1983, he fell while serving. Faiz was thirty-seven when he fell. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in his village. He left behind a widow and four children. Fayez’s picture is displayed in the memorial wall at the Yad Labanim Center in Daliyat al-Carmel, and also in a branch in Beit Jann
