Abraham Maturso
The youngest son of Leah and Aharon, was born in 1927 in Salonika, Greece. He studied at the Kol Israel Haverim school and when he was eight years old, in 1935, the family immigrated to Israel. His older brother was a few years ahead of him and paved the way for a family. But their economic situation, after having to leave their property in Greece, was very tight and Yad Vashem could not send the little Abraham to school. With the help of a public servant, the talented boy was brought to the school, graduated cum laude and was about to receive a scholarship for further study, but again, the economic situation in the house made this impossible, and he went to work. From 1942 to 1945 he worked at the bank, continuing his studies in evening classes, and in 1945 he was admitted to the “translator” office. He excelled in his work and most of it was in reading professional literature. When he was 18, he joined the Irgun and kept the secret to the extent that even his closest relatives did not know it. “The head of the Hananel group” was his name in the underground, but only a week before his death. Three days later he was suffered in the hospital and died on April 30, 1948. A while ago he told one of his friends, “I want to die a moment after the victory,” but he did not win it He was brought to eternal rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
