Abraham-Jacob (Avi) Bock
Son of Yosef Halevy and Shoshana, Abraham was born on August 6, 1975 in Savyon, the fifth son of his parents who immigrated from the United States. My father was named after his grandfather, who died two weeks before his birth. My father began his studies at the Shilo State Religious Primary School in Kiryat Ono, and continued in the Herzog High School in Kfar Saba. He completed his high school studies at the Midreshet Noam school in Pardes Hannah, and then continued to study at a yeshiva in Kibbutz Maale Gilboa as part of a program that combines Torah studies with full military service. From an early age, Avi was active in the Bnei Akiva branch in Kiryat Ono, where he served as a counselor for two years. My father’s great love was the country for its beautiful landscapes. He walked most of it and led his apprentices on her paths. From an early age, my father was characterized by the desire to contribute to others, and he volunteered at every opportunity: at school, in Bnei Akiva, in the Civil Guard and in the army. My father continued to volunteer as a volunteer in the movement even after he left his home and began his military service, when he was a student at Kibbutz Ma’aleh Gilboa. In the summer of 1994 my father began his military service. His personal data was very high, and he chose to serve in the engineering corps in the Nahal Brigade, which was a difficult time for my father and his family – his mother Shoshana (Rosalynn) became ill with cancer and went to the United States for treatment. To the United States in order to donate her blood for a complicated operation that she had to undergo.Shoshana Bock died in 1995. During his service Avi was highly respected by his friends and commanders, and when he finished the course he went to an officer’s course and returned to serve as a company commander. He was a novice, with constant concern for their safety, great professionalism and personal example , His knowledge and his willingness to volunteer whenever necessary, was a role model for his soldiers and other company commanders, and at the end of the line in Lebanon he was supposed to be appointed deputy commander of the engineering company. In the summer of 1997 my father and his soldiers went to a pumpkin post in the security zone in southern Lebanon, My father fell by mortar fire towards the post by Hezbollah fighters while he ran to check the safety of his soldiers. He was twenty-two when he died. He was succeeded by his father, Dr. Yosef Halevy, and five brothers and sisters: Efraim, Noam, Aderet, Hillel and Yael, who was laid to rest in the military section of the Savyon cemetery. Amnon Lipkin-Shahak, that my father fulfilled his role with infinite devotion, stood out in giving a personal example to those around him, and invested all his energy in fulfilling the tasks, with the best interests of his soldiers in mind. “A charming man,” he described his father, his commander in the engineering company, Major Aviv Reshef. He described him as an excellent soldier and commander, who was always willing to listen to his soldiers and never complained. “I will miss my father’s quiet smile, which even in the most difficult moments, as if he would say,” It will be good. “
