Abraham Akari
Son of David and Tamar, Abraham was born on September 19, 1949 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. In 1951 his family immigrated to Israel. He studied at an elementary school in Jerusalem and at the “Efar” school in Jaffa. When he was admitted to Youth Aliyah, he lived for one year in Ramat Hadassah near Tivon. When he was 13, he came to Kibbutz Ashdot Ya’akov (Ichud) through the Youth Aliyah where he was educated for four years with the Arazim youth group. He was a member of the kibbutz youth organizations and worked in public works, within the framework of the kibbutz. He took a four-day walk and was a sports fan. Within a short time he gained the hearts of his friends in the youth society, the Lev of his teachers, and the Lev of the kibbutz members with his kindness and willingness to help everyone, his serious attitude to work and his desire to expand his knowledge. Abraham had a natural leadership and stood out in his social activities. He was the driving force behind every journey. He especially remembers his friends from the many trips. During the difficult and exhausting hours of the trip, he always appeared to help carry a heavy backpack, serve water to thirst and encourage a weak or tired friend. From the early days of the farm he called the fodder industry and worked diligently throughout the years of training until his last day. He never took care of working hours, because he did it willingly and enthusiastically. He was one of the first to work on the tractor and took out his driver’s license. He was recruited to the IDF at the end of July 1967 and served in every part of the country: the Suez Canal, the Jordan Valley and the Golan Heights, and he was known as a courageous, honest and capable man. On every holiday he would go to Ashdot, to the house where he grew up and be educated, to warm up in his surroundings among his friends, and during his entire service he waited for his release to join the kibbutz On April 28, 1970, He went to open a water faucet to irrigate the fodder areas, where he cared for love and invested his energy. The military unit in Kiryat Shaul, Kibbutz Ashdot Ya’akov took out a pamphlet bearing the name Avraham Random.
