Abir (Oberlander), Menachem


Son of Michael and Sarah. He was born on June 14, 1931 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Immigrated to Israel in 1939. Studied in two high school grades of the “Shevach” vocational school, 1946-1948. His hobbies were art (painting and carving), and even photography was his favorite. Among his hobbies were handicrafts such as carpentry, engraving and metalworking. In leisure he was involved in sports. He was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in September 1948. Until 1963, he was a civilian employee of the Israel Defense Forces and then signed a regular army service and rose to the rank of Major. In fact, he built his house and even the furniture he did himself. On the 9th of Av 5728 (9.8.1968) he died during his service. He left a wife and two children. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
