Abby, Jacob


Son of-Batya and Michael (a veteran police officer) was born on 18.2.1930 in Tel Aviv. He attended the “Geula” elementary school in Tel Aviv. There he excelled, as his teachers had shown, in his serious attitude to any task he was assigned. Already in the elementary school, his artistic orientation was prominent. In 1943 he was accepted to the Montefiore Technical School where he completed his studies. Bought him proficiency in Hebrew literature and said to study science. When the order to raise the children was published in 1930, he came to the service and waited for the call. At the end of March he was drafted and sent to Ein Hashofet, and after a short stay in one of Emek Hefer’s settlements, he was transferred to the Jerusalem front and joined the 4th Battalion of the Palmach in the newly established Harel Brigade. During the Operation Yevusi, which was intended to open the road to Atarot and to the isolated Neve Ya’akov by conquering Nabi Samuel and its environs, the attacking force reached Nabi Samwil only at dawn, encountered strong resistance from the enemy and was forced to retreat. 5708 (April 23, 1948.) The next day he was buried in a mass grave in the Kiryat Anavim military cemetery.
