Abbas, Ronen
Son of Na’ima and Zaky. He was born on 11 February 1983 at the hospital in Safed. Brother to Sausan, Tamam, Nariman, Hamed and Rani. Ronen began elementary school in Rama, the village where he grew up and was educated. Ronen received a call-up order for the IDF and insisted on enlisting in a combat unit, despite receiving requests from the Navy and the Intelligence Corps. At the end of his basic training and advanced training, he received an outstanding student apprentice certificate. He served as a combat soldier in the Sword Battalion. Ronen was a brave and diligent soldier, loved by all his friends in the battalion, whom he loved. The battalion commander and his company commander say that he used to be the first to volunteer for combat missions. He was a candidate for an officer’s course and wanted to move forward on the officer’s ladder. Ronen used to sing to his friends in the battalion and was affectionately called “the singer”. On August 22, 2003, Corporal Ronen Abbas was killed while serving at the age of 20. Ronen was buried in the military section of the Rama village cemetery, leaving behind his parents and five brothers and sisters.
