Aaron, Yefet

Aaron, Yefet

Son of Yahya and Miriam. Born in March 1948 in Aweid, Asher in Yemen, the family immigrated to Israel in 1950. When Yefet arrived at the elementary school in Tel Mond, he continued to study at a high school in Emek Hefer and received his matriculation certificate at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Since he had a tendency toward biology and psychology, and his eyes were filled with kindness and warmth, simplicity and honesty, and in August 1967 he was drafted into the IDF and assigned to the Armored Corps. More than once, they wanted to release him from the army because of the situation at home, but he did not agree to that and continued as a soldier in the armored patrol. He was loved by his comrades in the reconnaissance company. His willingness to help the comrades was extraordinary and his will to fight and to aid the war effort was unimaginable. When he went on holiday, he spent more time in his home than other soldiers because he felt obliged to be with his mother, to be beside her and to serve as a source of encouragement. He said, “I just want to be Simcha, I would like to have a warm home and a wonderful family, what does a person need more in this world?” But during his military service he went on a tour on the 11th of Iyar 5728 (May 9, 1968), and in the course of fulfilling his duties, he died at Ras Sudar in Sinai. He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Tel Mond. The commander of the unit wrote a condolence letter to his family on behalf of the commanders and his comrades in the service, and noted his excellent physical ability, which was a source of pride, and the tremendous achievements that the entire company made. The secretary of the Association for Physical Culture “Hapoel” – the Tel Mond branch, to which Yefet belonged, wrote in this spirit and emphasized his dedication and behavior in the association was more than likely “as a member and as an example actor who always knew how to help when needed.”
