When his eldest son was drafted into the IDF and was in basic training, the father and the son corresponded by military mail (because Eliyahu was in the reserves) and his greatness was the father’s joy in seeing his son in IDF uniform. On the 12th of Sivan 5730 (June 12, 1970) Eliyahu fell in the line of duty and was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
