Zachik, Petel
Son of Tovah and Moshe, was born on August 1, 1928, in Degania Bet. Grew up and was educated for work and peace, learned and practiced to fight for the peace of the Yishuv and the homeland. From the beginning of the War of Independence, he served as a guard in the Emek Hayarden bloc, moved to a special unit and fought all the battles in the valley. Refused to accept a release order obtained for him in the first truce. He joined the Golani brigade, excelled in the battles of Sejera-Lubia and participated in the rest of the operations in the Galilee. He saw the war as a necessary effort for the sake of life, like hard work in the agriculture, which, in any case, should not be avoided. He went down with the brigade to the Negev and took part in Operation Horev to remove the Egyptian army from Israel. At the end of the operation he participated in the battle for the Rafah outposts and was seriously injured. Even then he was careful not to stifle the spirit of his comrades with painkillers, and when you carried him on a stretcher to the clinic in the rear, he asked them several times to take a rest, that the road was far away, and a few hours later he died of his wounds on the 4th of Tevet 5709 (5.1.1949). – At the cemetery in Degania B.
