Yonel, Harry
During World War I he lived in Manchester, England, and volunteered for the Jewish Legion – the 39th Battalion of the King’s Rifles, which was meant to participate in the conquest of the Land of Israel by the Turks. When he arrived in Israel he was transferred to the 40th Battalion of the King’s Rifles after he had already passed the battles and stayed in Rafah. Here, on the 20th of Adar II, 22.3.1919, Yonel died in the course of his duty, and his name was commemorated at the “Soldiers’ House” in Avihail. He found his place of rest in Buckley, Britain.
