Yehiel, Simcha


Son of Fruma and Aharon, was born on February 15, 1928, in the city of Berlau, Romania. He completed elementary school and worked as a carpenter and locksmith. He was a Zionist and Halutz. For four years he was a member of the Dror youth movement and his turn to immigrate came in 1946. Simcha immigrated to Israel on a ship called “Knesset Israel” which was captured by the British and its passengers were deported to Cyprus. Upon his release he came to Givat Brenner. Was a member of the Romanian nucleus there, who later moved to the bridge. He worked in agriculture and industry, and from the kibbutz he was drafted into the army. He had been trained there before and sent to the ports near Gesher. He was later sent to the Negev and served in the Negev Brigade. He spent some time in Mishmar Hanegev. When Beersheba was conquered, he moved to the Faluja strongholds. On the way there, about five kilometers before Faluja, the car broke down; He got out of it and landed on a mine. He was wounded and died a few hours later, on the 28th of Tishrei 5709 (October 28, 1948). He was laid to rest at the Warburg military cemetery.
