Wolfson, Dr. Gideon (Guenter)


Dr. Gideon, son of Liza and Meir (Alfred) Wolfson, was born on 31.3.1901 in the city of Albertfeld, Germany, where he completed high school. In 1934 the invitation was received from Jerusalem and then he immigrated to Israel and worked at the Institute of Physics at the Hebrew University. In 1941 his daughter was born in Jerusalem. During the years of the riots of 1936-1939 he participated in training and guarding in his neighborhood, Kiryat Shmuel, and on Mount Scopus, and during the war he engaged in scientific work in the service of the war effort. During the War of Independence he devoted most of his time to research and development for the army’s needs. He participated in a convoy to Mount Scopus on 13.4.1948. The convoy was ambushed and Gideon was killed and buried in the cemetery in Sanhedria.
