Wiesenhausen, Yehoyakim (Horst)


Son of Rita and Ludwig. Yehoyakim was born on 7 Tamuz, June 19th 1926, in Berlin, Germany. After the Nazi rise to power he continued to study in a Jewish school, where he excelled in technical studies and won several prizes. In 1939 he moved to England and in 1940 to Israel. He continued his studies at the Gymnasium in Tel Aviv and at the Titz Yagur vocational school. After serving as a guard in Ein Gev, he returned to Tel Aviv and worked at the Matar factory in Givat Brenner for three years, continued to study and managed to pass the London matriculation exams. Yehoyakim was drafted into the IDF on March 11, 1948, and on April 18 he was transferred to Kfar Darom. Yehoyakim fell in the first Egyptian attack on the 2nd ofIyar, May 11, 1948. He served as a machine gun in the front position and an Egyptian shell made a direct hit. Yehoyakim was laid to rest in a mass grave in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
