Wiener, Sivan


Daughter of Esther and Jacob. She was born on June 3, 1983 in Holon. Sister to David, Michael, Orly, Sapir and Nir. Sivan was a lively child, full of joy and wisdom, who quickly and easily acclimated to the environment – in gan, in school, in her neighborhood and in society. She liked everyone everywhere, big and small alike. Sivan began her studies at the Sha’ar Ha’rayot Elementary School, and completed her studies at the Kiryat Sharet High School in Holon. She was an outstanding student, and especially excelled in sports. Sivan studied sports and won a trophy and medals for her excellence in running hurdles. From an early age Sivan enjoyed folk dancing, and soon she stood out as a talented dancer and joined the Hora Re’im band. For years, until the end of her high school studies, Sivan performed with the company in folk dances on the stages of the city of Holon and other cities in Israel, in theaters and special shows, such as Independence Day (Yom Hatzmaut) celebrations, and even traveled to the United States, Germany and France. At the end of December 2001, Sivan enlisted in the IDF, and at the end of basic training she underwent a training course in Tzrifin. At the end of the course she was assigned to Camp 80, where she was supposed to begin with a class. On June 5, 2002, Sivan fell in a terrorist attack at the Megiddo junction. The day before, she had arrived at her home and celebrated her nineteenth birthday with her family and friends. In the morning she boarded an 830 bus from Tel Aviv to Tiberias on her way to her new job in northern Israel. At the Megiddo junction, a car bomb hit a bus carrying a suicide bomber, and almost everyone in the bus was hit. Sivan was killed on the spot. In the attack, 16 other people were killed: Staff Sergeant Gandhi Isakov, Staff Sergeant Eliran Buskila, Staff Sergeant Zvika Gelbard, First Sergeant Yigal Navor, Staff Sergeant David Stanislavsky, Sergeant Violeta Hizgiayev, Sergeant Sariel Katz, Sergeant Dotan Reizel, T. Liron Avitan, Cpl. Denis Belomin, Corporal Avraham Barzilai, Corporal Vladimir Murari, and citizens Zion Agmon, Adi Dahan, Shimon Timishit and Eliyahu Thamesit. Sivan was buried in the military cemetery in Holon, leaving behind her parents and five brothers and sisters.
