Wicker, Reuben (Robert, Artur)


Son of Gretel and Ze’ev, was born on December 31, 1929 in the city of Munich, Germany. He was educated in a Zionist spirit and from childhood he dreamed of immigrating to Israel. In his games he was a shipbuilder and a navigator in which he would sail to Palestine. In 1936 he immigrated to Israel with his parents who settled in Bat Yam. The years of events near his rise left their mark on his character and way of thinking. Was a member of the group of boys who helped establish positions in their frequently attacked neighborhood, and were involved in guarding and protecting and serving as connections. His life was sea. He studied in the elementary school, was a good student, and excelled in particular with good reason. At the age of 16 he joined the Haganah. He was also a member of the “Hapoel” Navy and served there as a guide. After graduating from elementary school, he wanted to continue his studies at the Naval School in Haifa, but because of the bad security situation his dream was not fulfilled. He studied at the “Shevach” vocational school, and after a year of study, he went to study cooking and baking in order to get to work on the ship as a cook only. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he joined the Palmach naval company and took a course for seamen in the Sidney-Ali camp, but during the difficult battles on the road to Jerusalem he joined the Harel Brigade, which was active there and needed reinforcements. In one of the battles of the “Alfortzim” battalion, he fell in an outpost on the road to Jerusalem on Wednesday, 13.5.1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
