Weinberger, Yisrael
Yisrael ben Menachem and Dina was born on the 26th of Heshvon, November 3, 1926, in Montsatz, Czechoslovakia. In 1947 he joined the ranks of the Haganah, where he was active in organizing the aliyah to Israel. When he arrived in Israel in 1948, he joined Kibbutz Hahotrim and the IDF. In 1953 he married and two years later their son Yoram was born. In 1959, he served in the Military Advocate General’s Office and then was commander of the Supreme Court. Yisrael quickly advanced through the ranks, and even when he was able to retire, he preferred to continue serving in the IDF. His devotion to the army and to the family was the foundation of his life, for which he lived and devoted himself to his last day. He took part in all the wars, and was awarded the title of “Ala” On the 8th of Nissan, April 8th 1976, he fell in the line if duty and was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife and son. M. Shamgar wrote to Yisrael’s wife: “Yisrael was a loyal soldier, proud and dedicated to his country and his homeland.” After his death he was promoted to major.
