Weiman, Ephraim


Son of Genia and Dov. He was born on May 27, 1920 in Siedlce, Poland, and immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel in May 1924. In Tel Aviv he graduated from the Geula School of Commerce in early 1935. At the beginning of 1935, In the Hagana organization, and at the outbreak of the 1936 riots, he served in a Signal Company in the Tel Aviv District and was also sent by the Haganah to protect Tirat Shalom. In the summer of 1937, at the end of his high school studies, he was sent to the position of liaison and maintenance of oil drillers in the desert of Jericho and then to Ramat Hakovesh. In 1938, he enlisted in the Notre Dame Battalion and served as a supervisor for the signal at the Hadera-Haifa line. Later, he served in training and supervision positions on the Haganah’s national signal network. From 1941 to 1939 he served as a sergeant in the Jezreel Valley and was responsible for maintaining contact in this district. Ephraim was a talented, energetic and daring young man, yet he loved a singer and a friend’s conversation, among them Oded and Bider, his friends. At the beginning of 1941, he decided to enlist in the British army, but was called upon to fulfill a special mission: to blow up the oil refineries that were used by the enemy in Tripoli in Lebanon at the time of World War II. After the training period, on May 18, 1941, Liad left for a group of 23 selected young men in the “Hagana” in “Aryi Hayam,” a large and fast motor boat, but the mission was not implemented. Efraim laid down parents and two brothers, and after his death he was awarded the Haganah’s “Volunteer Letter.” 23 Yordei Ha-Sira was commemorated in various cities in Israel by naming streets in their names; A monument was also erected in memory of them at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl, Jerusalem.
