Vanhorst, Eden

Ben Efrat and Jan. He was born on 26 March 1986 in Kibbutz Kabri. A younger brother to Omri and Avner and an older brother and close to the little sister – Carmel. Eden grew up and was educated in Kibbutz Kabri, studied at the Ma’ayanot Elementary School and at the Manor-Kabri High School. Eden loved the books of the writer JRR. Tolkien, “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit,” which suited him and connected to him both intellectually and abstractly. Eden joined the forum dealing with Tolkien and his works and soon became a central activist and site managers. Together with the webmaster he built an encyclopaedia with more than 2,000 entries on Tolkien’s books and was a partner in other factories. His family writes: “Eden, what can you say about a boy named Eden, the name so suited to express your whole essence, like the Garden of Eden you were to us, so delicate, sensitive, intelligent and pleasant. You were a child of such a love and a good friend, there was no evil in you, a child who would not touch even the insects that roamed the house – he would knock a beetle out of the door at the most.we all loved you and your girlfriend, Since you were a soft child, you have always reminded us of the little prince, your delicate character, your airiness, your preoccupation with the essential things and the light that shines from you … We laughed when we heard You’re sitting at the computer in a collective game with all your friends around Cabri, how you would shout at them and get mad when they do not exactly follow your intentions when you’ve been a few steps ahead all the time or we’d hear you when you’d burst out laughing while watching one of the humorous bits you were watching When we were on the computer, we laughed at the rhythm of your jet talk, which we could barely follow, and Father always asked Carmel to translate what you said, we loved your bunch of friends, what wonderful connections you had with each other. The material before the exam. I do not know how much you learned, but these meetings were always an experience in and of themselves. There was such a calculated laziness in you that you did not want to make an effort with things that seemed not important enough or uninteresting to you. But when something did catch you, you could spend all your time and interest in it and did not give up. Such as your tremendous investment in building the wonderful encyclopedia on the Tolkien site and other tasks you have taken upon yourself. We were very fond of the activities and meetings you had at the Tolkien Forum, from where we learned that when you find an interest in a subject you invest, initiate and work tirelessly … Only after your death did we hear from your friends about the Tolkien Forum. Tell and share about the embryo you need. Eden – always be with us, all the time. “About a month after completing high school, on August 2, 2004, Eden enlisted in the IDF and began basic training. On August 10, 2004, Eden fell in the line of duty and he is eighteen years old. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Kabri. Survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Smadar, Eden’s teacher, writes: “Like Peter Pan, much of his life was Eden, a student, and that’s how I know Eden: Three years we met every morning, in the late mornings you had a mountain of red curls, Anyone who ever sat next to Eden found him an active and intense partner with crazy humor, and at any time he preferred to be part of the group of boys from different parts of the countryWho prepare together for physics and computers, and to rest from the effort, they dribble on the basketball court until the wee hours of the night. How hard it was to get up in the morning, after such arduous nights. We got used to seeing you late in the mornings, getting used to seeing you not sitting for a moment, in constant motion, even the rhythm of speech was crazy; I always asked you to repeat sentences, because at the speed you spoke you could not understand a word you said. What a difference between the slowness of each new morning, and the intensity and frenzy with which you filled these mornings. We’ve met you even in your deepest moments, and despite your incredible intelligence you were not prepared to have a trace of achievement! When we proposed to you in the 11th grade to go to university, you refused, you were not ready to compete, and you could not be motivated: you did not want to – and no one could demand that you do what you did not want to disturb you in the decisions you made! But when we offered you to learn Tolkien, you said: ‘The moment you put him in school, it’s not interesting.’ I do not know why you left like that, so suddenly there will be some who will say There were signs that they knew it was going to happen … I never imagined that you would slip out, that you would spend your life so briefly … In the yearbook your friends wrote to you that ‘when you grow older Whether you’re making a mistake – not laying anybody you mature, and understand the mistake, you chose: stay like Peter Pan, forever in your childhood. ” His friends from the Tolkien community write: “Eden and Nehorst arrived at the Tolkien Forum in May 2001. He chose a very unpretentious title,” Mr. Hundold, “and began writing on the forum, and soon changed his name to” Pyrgiogion “and then to Strider. It was a lie to say that his messages differed significantly from those of other boys who were caught up in the forum, but unlike others, Eden continued to write in the forum, his level of messages improved consistently and he began to participate Even in serious discussions, with a surprising level of maturity for his young age, his intelligence was clear to everyone Who read his posts on the forum, but he suffered from a severe spelling and spelling problem, but unlike other people who were furious at the corrections, Eden accepted the corrections, tried to learn from them, and even took the nickname Lord of Mistakes. In August of 2001 Eden offered his help to Ran Bar-Zik, the director of the Nomanor website, and Ran introduced Eden as a member of the site team, and quickly Eden proved himself a top-notch performer and became Ran’s deputy for all intents and purposes. At first, the two concentrated on developing the Noemanor site for the upcoming film. Eden learned HTML at top speed and coded JavaScript trivialities. In early 2002, Eden and Ran began the largest project of the Tolkien community: the construction of the Hebrew Encyclopedia of Arda. At the time, the project sounded quite fanciful – an encyclopaedia of more than 2,000 full Hebrew entries on Tolkien’s works. The work seemed to be impossible to overcome: writing entries and preparing them for display on the Web site. Eden took responsibility for the operational side and invested a tremendous amount of time and talent organized all the operational aspects of the encyclopedia: coding, index building, organization and testing of values and more. Eden was a man without replacement. His extensive Tolkien knowledge allowed him to sort the entries for the index and correct errors and problems, and his diligence, coupled with the technical knowledge he acquired in a relatively short time, allowed him to build theEncyclopedia from scratch. Within three months, Ran and Eden finished building the encyclopedia and presented it to the public in March 2002. The reactions ranged from tremendous appreciation and astonishment to the impressive project that for the first time in Israel built a reservoir of values for literary work. An appropriate journalistic response came and the site was published in all the press sections. Every month tens of thousands of surfers and researchers use the site to expand their knowledge of Tolkien’s works. Eden continued to be a member of the Numenor team and contributed greatly to the site. He also continued to be involved in the Arda Atlas Project. Without Eden, Ran would never have been able to maintain the ‘Numnor’ at a good level and establish projects that changed the face of the Tolkien community forever. Eden was involved in the administrative side of the Tolkien community. He was the first member of the deletion team during the film period, when there was a huge movement in the forum, they made great efforts to operate the forum (later forums) and to maintain order. Eden toured the forums mainly in the small hours, deleted messages from trolls, answered questions of new participants, explained, linked and contributed greatly to management and operation. Under his new nickname “Darren Gecker” (STRIDER) in Hebrew letters on the keyboard) he helped many members of the discussion forum. His level of knowledge, in addition to maturity, seriousness and high level of formulation, made him look much older than his age. At that time he was only 17, and yet he served as the mainstay of the community – both on the operational and knowledge levels of the discussion forum – when he contributed much of his knowledge to new participants. Many of Eden’s messages were also characterized by a thin, slightly cynical humor that characterized him. Since Kibbutz Kabri, where he lives, is far from the center, he rarely gets to meetings. But when he came to the meetings he was appreciated and respected by all members of the community. He was always happy to continue with the ICQ and email, and many members of the community maintained contact with him and knew him well, despite his important and central roles in the community, Young man or adult, but he was still an active participant in the team and maintained contact with many members of the Tolkien community, and shortly before he died he wrote about his experiences in the army and expressed his hope to return next week. 2004, Eden ended his life, leaving us stunned, hurt and especially missed blessed.”
