Unterport, Mordecai
Son of Yitzhak and Sarah. He was born on the 2nd of Tammuz 5705 (2.7.1945) at the end of World War II, in the city of Radautz, Germany. His first years of childhood were spent in a small town among gardens and flowering orchards and wheat fields. The family immigrated to Israel in 1950 and Mordechai was five years old. For three years he lived with his parents in the hut of the Kfar Ata transit camp, and despite the gray exterior, the room was full of joy and happiness. Mordecai loved the expanses and was willing to help his friends when he needed them, without taking anything into account – and so his friends loved him and ran in his vicinity. Mordechai studied at the “Lohamei Hagetaot” school in Kfar Ata and when he completed his studies he studied at the vocational school in Kiryat Sprinzak, where he specialized in radio and electronics, since he dreamed of becoming an engineer. He worked in these professions, built radios, repaired various instruments, read booklets on the subject, and liked to talk about him. Before he was drafted into the IDF in August 1963, he studied for a year at the Air Force Technical School, where he acquired additional knowledge in the field of electronics, and was stationed at the air force base and was responsible for the radio station at his base. But he suddenly began to complain about his aches and pains, and after he had tried to recover, out of concern for his parents that they would not be in a state of sadness, he wanted to leave the hospital and return to work in the army, but he did not return to work. Finally, after eight months of suffering, on the 17th of Sivan 5727 (25).
