Prior to his induction into the IDF, he was trained as a driver in a pre-military course, and in late August 1990, Gadi was conscripted into the army, underwent general basic training and was sent as a driver to an engineering base. According to his commanders and friends, Gadi was very pleased with his position in the unit and his satisfaction was reflected in his work. He loved the trips along the dirt roads, the difficult and unusual routes. He was friendly and very kind to the other soldiers in the unit. On the day of Tevet 5761 (January 1, 1991), Gadi fell during his service. He was brought to eternal rest in the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, four brothers – Morris, Arieh, Yaniv and Daniel, and seven sisters – Elsa, Dvora, Doris, Orly, Sylvie, Natalie and Keren. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the base wrote: “Gadi did his duty with love and will. His parents memorialized him in a synagogue in Jerusalem.
