Toina, Eli


Born in Baghdad, Iraq, on January 1, 1955. Eli attended elementary and high school in his hometown, and in 1972 immigrated to Israel with his family and was accepted to Ulpan Giora, where he studied Hebrew , And began to socialize. The family, parents and five children lived in Ramle and Eli began to work before enlisting to help support the family. Eli was drafted into the IDF in early December 1973 and assigned to the Nahal Brigade. After basic training, heavy mortars were sent to the course and assigned to a heavy mortar unit. In the course of his service he was promoted to the rank of corporal and given the signal of operational service. He spent his time at various bases around the country. In mid-March 1976 he was released from regular service, returned to his home in Ramle and did odd jobs. He did not abandon his military profession and continued to serve in his unit every time it was called for an exercise or operational employment. On the first day of Adar I, 5742 (4 January 1984), a corporal fell to Eli during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the Ramle military cemetery, leaving his parents, two brothers and two sisters, Eli served in our unit for two years as a reserve soldier.
