Tishby (Schwartz), Shmuel (Zanville)


Son of Gitel was born in Kari, Transylvania, Romania, where he was 15 years old when he was about to immigrate to Israel, but the Second World War delayed him. In 1944, he was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp, where he suffered many hardships from the Nazis and with the advance of the American army he was liberated from the camp, “(Pioneer Pioneer Youth). At that time he was also active in the Hagana, served as a company commander, and participated in various activities against German and Polish rioters. In 1946 he made his way to Italy. Where he retired from the “Nacham” training group and joined the “Hanoar Hazioni” nucleus, after a tedious expectation he sailed to Israel on the “23 Yordei Hasira” ship, which was captured by the British and sent to the Cyprus refugee camp. On 19.12.1946 he was released from the camp and arrived in Israel. He entered public service at Oved Hazioni in Jerusalem and joined the ranks of the Haganah. He was a member of the Hanoar Hazioni Council. In particular, he devoted himself to recruiting new immigrants to the ranks of the Haganah. With the outbreak of the War of Independence after the UN General Assembly decided to divide the country into two states, he immediately became a full member of the ranks of the Hagash and was among the defenders of the Makor Haim neighborhood. He filled dangerous missions in Jerusalem and the Galilee. On the 26 th of Tevet 5708, 26.12.1947), he went with his platoon as reinforcements to the wet settlement, which was cut off. On the way they encountered an ambush. Shmuel was hit in the head and fell. He was buried in the cemetery on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. His name was engraved on the monument erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in memory of those who perished in the Jewish Quarter and the memory of soldiers who fell in the battle for Jerusalem and were buried on the Mount of Olives.
