Tessler, Menachem


Son of Shmuel and Esther. He was born on August 8, 1953, in Jerusalem. He completed his studies at the Ohel Ya’akov elementary school in Tel Aviv and continued his studies at the yeshiva high school in the Haruah village in the humanistic track, and Menachem was a full-fledged, pleasant and friendly young man who was active in his class and often initiated social activities. He was a devoted son to his parents and since he was the eldest, they consulted him in many areas and usually accepted his opinion. His two sisters had a kind of guide and a lot to do for them with love and concern Beginning of November 1971 and was assigned to the medical Force. After basic training and after completing a paramedics course with great success, he was assigned to one of the units of the Israel Medical Corps and served as a combat medic. He soon became fond of everything and had a good relationship with his co-workers. His commanders admired him very much and placed him in positions of great responsibility. During the Yom Kippur War, he spent days and nights in the fields of battle and left the war in peace. For his part in the war he was awarded the ‘Yom Kippur War’ signal. While serving duty, his commanders recommended that he be promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. In his recommendation, his commander noted that Menahem was a very good soldier, responsible, devoted and efficient, and was given the rank of sergeant sergeant, and on April 17, 1974, he was awarded the rank of First Sergeant and a few months later was discharged from the regular army service and assigned to a reserve unit of the Medical Corps. Sometimes he was called up for reserve duty and was faithful to his duties. Shortly after his release, he was hired by the bank and worked as an accountant. He loved his work, invested all his energy in it, and earned the respect of his superiors. There were many plans for him to study and advance in his profession and in time to establish a home in Israel, but he did not achieve them. When he was on reserve duty – on September 5, 1976 – Menachem was wounded while carrying out his duties and was transferred to Rambam Hospital in Haifa. Despite the doctors’ efforts to save him, he died of his wounds several hours later. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents and two sisters. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “I received with great pain the message that Menahem had perished in the course of his duties.” Menachem chose the profession of a paramedic to help others when necessary. He was one of the outstanding soldiers and volunteered for every role with extraordinary devotion, and his fall is lost to all of us. ” His parents donated a Torah scroll to a synagogue in Bnei Brak.
