Taub, Avinoam (Avi)

Taub, Avinoam (Avi)

Son of Pinchas and Giselle. He was born on May 5, 1950 in Haifa. He studied at the Ma’ale Hacarmel Elementary School, continued at the Reali School and graduated from the Leo Baeck High School in Haifa. When he was 13, he had a special tendency to sculpt and he devoted himself to his time until he finished the seventh level. He knew how to play down his hobby, and his teachers and even his army friends did not know about it. Avi was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1968. He was an outstanding soldier, a tank commander with the rank of sergeant and a model member, who was loved by everyone who knew him. On 24 Iyar, May 30, 1970, exposed in a turret, during shelling on the banks of the canal, he came to extract an IDF patrol, most of whose soldiers were wounded and Avi was killed. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. His sculptures were exhibited at an exhibition which was held on the occasion of a visit by American Friends of the Mossad and visitors.
