Tamir, Reuven
Son of Yehuda and Bracha. He was born on the 2nd of Tishrei, October 5, 1948 in Gilad. He studied at the regional high school, that is located between Moshav Regba and Akko. He was very responsible for his work, and always aspired to achieve good achievements. In August 1967, he was drafted into the IDF. He volunteered for the Air Force, but because of his inability to distinguish colors he did not pass the tests and was drafted into another combat unit, where he received his military education. From there, he was sent to a squad commander’s course. He was an excellent fighter who was exceptionally resourceful and energetic. His extraordinary courage and talent were appreciated by his commanders and friends. At the border near the Jordanian village of Adasiya, he was hit, and on the way to the hospital, died of his wounds, on the 7th of Kislev, November 27, 1968. He was brought to rest in Moshav Regba. The commander of his unit, in a letter of condolence to his parents, wrote about the special mission Reuven had fallen upon while he was carrying his comrades at the head of the column, who was moving toward enemy territory. At the head of the column, Reuven encountered an ambush and responded immediately, but later fell during the exchange of fire. “I knew Reuven from close up,” the commander writes. “I knew him very well because of his wonderful personality … (See Hebrew translation for full letter.)
