Spitzer (Oren), David (Letzi)
Son of Aliza and Zvi, was born on the 18th of Tevet, 5708 (2.1.1918) in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. He attended elementary school and graduated from the Gymnasium of the Jewish community in his city. At an early age, he was interested in sports and joined a sports club in Budapest. At the beginning of the Second World War (end of 1939) he immigrated to Eretz Israel in Aliya Bet, and upon his arrival in Palestine he enlisted in the British Army. David served in a unit that was stationed in Egypt, excelled in his service and reached the rank of sergeant. His parents, who remained abroad, perished in the Holocaust. After the war he was discharged and returned to Israel. He worked as a gym teacher in schools in the Upper Galilee: Ayelet Hashahar, Dafna, Dan and Degania. David coordinated the affairs of Hapoel in the Upper Galilee. All his knowledge and acquaintances, as well as his disciples and disciples, loved him. He was active in public work and was interested in literature and art. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he immediately joined the Haganah’s defensive forces and participated in battles in the Upper Galilee. In the course of his duties, he was injured in a road accident. Since his recovery was not complete, he was taken back to Beilinson Hospital where he died on December 10, 1948. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Petah Tikva.
