Spiegel, Bracha

Spiegel, Bracha

Daughter of Joshua and Steffi. She was born on November 15, 1951 in Nahariya. She studied at the regional elementary school in Regba and at the regional high school near Acre. Bracha grew up in Shavei Zion on the seashore, and from childhood she built herself a very rich inner world. She had a talent for drawing and especially for drawing people’s figures and vignettes. At every moment of leisure she would draw on scraps of paper that we had taken up beside her. She also liked the blessing of listening to music and playing sports. She participated in many competitions and even tried to get accepted to the Wingate Institute – because she wanted to build her future in physical education. She was a playful, lively, cheerful girl with a spark of joy in her eyes. She was a vibrant and agitated figure. Everyone loved her and she always knew how to say a good word and to listen to all her loved ones. In a diary she wrote when she was 15 years old (in 1966), there is a section that bears witness to its character: “I have never been angry with anyone and I do not take offense when I am insulted … Life has undergone a transformation and has become much more serious and emotional. At the end of November 1969, Bracha was conscripted into the IDF, and her military life was a new and unknown world for her, but she was not afraid. In a letter written by a friend who served with her in the army, she writes: “Always, in a difficult time, Bracha would say to me: ‘You are right, but you have to come to terms with the matter …'” Bracha convinces me that you must also accept what you do not want. ” That was Bracha’s slogan. She knew how to maintain high morale and good humor and used them to help others. On her 19th birthday, when she was dining with her parents at a restaurant on the beach, she said: “How Yaffa the captivity of Zion is, the endless sea and the Yaffa beach, and in general, I do not miss anything. On 31 July 1970, she died of wounds sustained while performing her duties. She was laid to rest in the cemetery in Shavei Zion. An IDF officer first wrote to the family: “A short while ago your daughter was a soldier, but at the same time she excelled in dedication and kindness and was kind to everything. “The commander of her unit wrote to her parents:” Bracha was a good soldier, devoted, diligent and acceptable to her commanders and all the soldiers and employees of the unit. During her service, she contributed greatly to the IDF and its unit, both in fulfilling its role and in the social consolidation of the unit … I would like to express my participation and the participation of all its members and friends in service, in your sorrow for the great loss. ” After its fall, a booklet was published in its memory, bearing the name Bracha, and a scholarship fund was established in its name.
