Solomon, Menachem Yehuda (Emanuel)


Son of Nissan and Leah. He was born on the 17th of Shevat, December 2, 1934, in Ludosz, Romania. He attended elementary school and completed his studies there. Even when he was young, he was a member of the Bnei Akiva movement, and aspired to immigrate to Israel. After graduating from elementary school, his family immigrated to Israel, in 1950, and he studied the weaving profession at the ORT school in Ramat Gan. He was interested in sports, especially soccer. Menachem was endowed with great energy, always helping others when he could. He was full of smiles and laughter, and knew the meaning of love. He never bore a grudge against anyone. He was drafted into the IDF, and after his discharge, he went to reserve duty. He fell on the 10th of Shevat, January 29, 1969, while serving in the south, in the village of Ruppin. He left a wife and four children. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. In his memoirs, the commander of his regiment wrote: “It was clear to us that every commander who joined the department, and had social character traits, would be joining the pool, with such qualities as Emmanuel, with his calm, yet purposeful fatherly approach….. It seems to me that we owe our gratitude to our friend Emanuel…I am sure that our future path, and wherever we turn, will be guided by the social exemplary behavior of Emanuel.
