Solnik, Yerachmiel


Son of Hanna Brendel and Kalman, was born in November 1910 in the city of Kielce, Poland (then under Russian rule). A son of a family of laborers. After finishing elementary school, he worked as a spinster. Before immigrating to Israel, he went on a training program at Hechalutz Hatza’ir in Kibbutz Shachariya in the village of Ibsovitz and immigrated to Israel on 1.2.1930. Upon his arrival he joined as a member of Kibbutz Ramat Hakovesh. He experienced all the work and crafts in the kibbutz and was a dedicated worker who excelled in his intelligence. He worked in orchards and dreamed of being a tractor driver. After an internship, he became a tractor operator and worked in foreign labor on behalf of the agriculture. Was always awake and active in public affairs, and devoted himself to the “Hapoel” branch in the moshava. Was an ordinary man of internal discipline and inclined to bear the burden. Yerachmiel fell on the 9th of June 1948 when the Ramat Hakovesh was shelled and brought to rest in the kibbutz cemetery, followed by a wife, Esther and a son.
