Solnik, Shaul (“Shaulik”)


Son of Zvi and Leah, members of Kibbutz Beit Alpha. He was born on 8 November 1945. He completed his elementary and high school studies at the Gilboa Regional Institute there, and after completing his studies Shaul was a member of a group that was organized in the kibbutz and managed to work for a while in Falah. Was interested in music and sports, and when he enlisted in the IDF in November 1964, he debated which corps he would choose and eventually volunteered for the Armored Corps. He completed his training period with honors, passed all the training stages – a course of tank commanders and officers’ course. After finishing the course, he began to command a platoon of an operational company. It was on his twenty-first birthday. Shaul was about to be discharged from the IDF in May 1967, but due to the tense security situation, he remained in the army and was promoted to lieutenant.Therefore, the Six-Day War broke out and the battle that took place on the Abu-Agila-Kutayama road in Sinai after the occupation of the Abu- He was buried in the military emergency cemetery in Bari and was later transferred to his eternal rest in his kibbutz.In a letter of condolence to his family, the commander-in-chief wrote that Shaul “fulfilled his obligation with courage – spirit and courage and together with his friends brought us the victory. “The information of the Gilboa Regional Council in memory of the fallen people was mentioned in the booklet” 53 of them ” In his book, “Benigno”, published by Kibbutz Beit Alfa in memory of his five sons, his history, notes of a conversation about him on the family holiday, memoirs of his friends and his letters were included in the “Guili Ash”, Volume IV, Israel, was brought from his estate.
