In October 1991, Tamir was drafted into compulsory military service in the Israel Defense Forces, where he went to Kibbutz Sgt. According to his commander, Tamir was a disciplined soldier. He was a good friend to the other soldiers, who carried out every assignment he was given. On April 29, 1992, he fell while carrying out his duties. Tamir was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and two sisters – Solit and Savit.
