Shwartz, Avraham-Bezalel (Adi)


The only son of Rachel and Gabriel was born on July 15, 1929 in Germany, and in 1934, at the age of 5, he immigrated to Israel on the ship “Galilea” and studied at the Carmel, Bilu, And then specialized in the electrical profession. On the bench he excelled in his diligence, especially after studying Israeli literature and history, and he liked the books of heroism and the history books of Israel. In 1946, when he was 16 years old, he joined the Palmach and took part in its activities, and on June 17, 1946, after the bridges were blown up, he was captured by the British and sent to prison in Latrun and from there to Rafah. He again joined the Palmach and participated in its operations. When the War of Independence broke out after the United Nations General Assembly decided to partition the country, he became a departmental medic in December 1947. His duties were filled with responsibility and enthusiasm, first as a scout and then as a machine gunner. On the 5th of Adar 2 5708 (1948), a convoy of men from the Negev left for Nir Am, where the convoy reached the village of the murderers in Briar, where it was attacked by gunfire and a battle broke out. He was taken to the hospital in Nir Am and died of his wounds, and was buried in Nir Am, where the “Operation Abraham” took place after his death. R.
